Williamsburg Inspired Landscape

Stone Hill Design Associates, Inc. developed a Master Plan for this 18th century property, drawing upon the historical character and style of a traditional Williamsburg garden. A Rose Garden, Shady Garden, and Pool Garden are laid out in a formal manner with flower beds softening the rectilinear character of the paving and fencing. A decorative picket fence encloses the rear yard and makes a visual connection between the barn and house. A deer resistant plant palette was developed as well as a deer fence at the rear and sides of the yard to protect plantings. A Vegetable and Herb Garden, a Greenhouse, and an Orchard are integrated with the more decorative garden elements. Circulation between house, garden, and barn played a major role in the design; a circular driveway was used to enhance the approach to the front of the house. Simple beds in the front yard define the edge of the “natural” woods and soften the sloping driveway entrance. |
