Stone Hill Design Associates, Inc. developed a design for a rear bluestone terrace and walkway for a young family as an extension of a new kitchen/porch addition. The concept of an outdoor room was emphasized by outdoor furniture, decorative pots, and plant material used to enhance and to create a sense of enclosure.

A stone stairway to the lower level play area is an accent feature of a hillside planted with flowering shrubs, perennials, & groundcovers. The lower level patio has a more casual feel and uses flagstone with sod joints.

The rear yard was graded to create a level lawn panel located just off the upper terrace. The play structure was strategically located at a lower grade to minimize its visual impact but still allow the children to be seen from the house and terrace.
