Associates, Inc. was contacted by the owner of this
existing residence to design a complete “makeover” of the existing rear concrete
terrace and pool area. Working around the existing pool shell, Stone Hill Design
designed a new patio surrounding the pool, relocated the fence, and changed the
paving materials, plantings, and lighting. Adjacent, formal boxwood gardens with
stonewall and stairs lead to lawn panels bordered with Magnolia hedges. Hillside
gardens separate the pool patio, and the pool house from the lower ‘great lawn’ with perennials,
shrub roses, fragrant viburnum, and Chinese Elms. The upper terrace was completely clad in stone with repositioned staircases linked to the pool. The entire upper terrace and stairs were edged in custom formed balustrades & wall caps to give the setting of the house more elegance. The formality of the space was further enhanced with a central, three-tiered fountain and basin and outlined with dwarf boxwoods and annuals. Large specimen trees were craned into the planters cut out of the existing terrace slab to add scale and shade to the newly formed outdoor dining rooms. This project required many artisans and contractors to work closely with Stone Hill Design to examine and design the fine details, combinations of materials, and custom products used throughout the site. |
