St. George's Addition

Stone Hill Design Associates, Inc. created the outdoor spaces
immediately adjacent to the re-arranged interior spaces due to the architectural
addition and renovation of this home. Large glass doors and
windows were an important addition and feature that the client wanted to take
advantage of in order to embellish the views to the gardens.
The Master Plan extended the center axis of the house directly into the rear
gardens and lawns. A revised entrance walk leads guests through a vine-covered
arbor, which lends access to the main entertaining patio. Generously wide stone
steps lead from the patio to the gardens beyond.
Sequencing the spaces and proportionally developing the vistas resulted in a variety of outdoor rooms. The seating spaces are edged with low stone walls and perennials; corners are defined by large transplanted Boxwood. A parterre garden is fully edged with English Boxwood, lavender, and garden ornaments. The mid-level lawn area is surrounded with taller evergreens and flowering shrubs to create more privacy to the pool. The last area of the rear yard is an open play lawn bordered with a cutting garden and bench.
